Ctrl + W also known as Control + W is a keyboard shortcut that is used to close a document, tab, program, etc.
How to use the Ctrl + W?
One needs to press and hold the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard and press the "W" key with it.
In Apple Mac, one needs to press "Command + Option + W" in order to close all windows.

In Microsoft Excel, if you choose to press the "Ctrl + W" key, it will close the current excel workbook.
In Microsoft Word, Ctrl + W lets you close the current document.
In all the major browsers (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera), Ctrl + W key is used to close the current tab, however, if only one tab is open, it will close the browser.
