Ctrl + 1 also known as Control + 1 is a keyboard shortcut that is often used to switch to the first tab in an Internet browser but it serves a different purpose in different programs.
How to use Ctrl + 1?
One needs to press and hold the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard and press the "1" key with it.
For using these shortcuts, you need to use the 1 key located above the top row keys, not on the numeric keypad.

- Ctrl + 1 in Browser:
In Microsoft Excel, if you choose to press the "Ctrl + 1" key, it will open the Format Cells window.
In Microsoft Word, Ctrl + 1 lets to change a line, paragraph, or all highlighted text to have single spacing.
Pressing "Ctrl + Alt + 1" will change the selected to heading 1.
In all the major browsers (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera), Ctrl + 1 key is used to switch to the first tab of the browser.
In Apple computers, Command + 1`is used to Display items as Icons in Finder.
In Youtube, 1 is used to move to 10% of the video
Pressing Ctrl+ 1 is used to switch to the mail view in Outlook.
